San Francisco Bay Area Attorney Paul Burglin Named Dean of National College for DUI Defense®
MONTGOMERY, ALA. (PRWEB) OCTOBER 4, 2019
San Rafael Attorney Paul Burglin was named Dean of the National College for DUI Defense® (NCDD). Founding members of NCDD saw a need for specialized training for lawyers in order to provide competent legal counsel to protect the rights of citizens charged with driving under the influence (DUI). They recognized that people from all different backgrounds can be accused and charged with DUI; that the majority of these people are good and honest citizens with no prior criminal record; that people can only be convicted of DUI if jurors accept the opinions of police officers and government witnesses.
Paul is recognized by his peers as one of the most experienced and accomplished DUI defense attorneys in the state of California. In his 34-year career, Paul has represented more than 5,000 people charged with DUI. He has served as lead counsel in more than 120 DUI jury trials, and he is well known and respected by prosecutors and judges as a diligent advocate for his clients.
A regular attendee of the annual NCDD seminar presented at Harvard Law School on DUI defense, Paul is a Dean Emeritus of the NCDD and editor-in-chief of its national Journal. In addition, he has co-authored the two-volume treatise California Drunk Driving Law since 2004 and is a graduate of the University of Indiana’s course on chemical testing and scientific protocols in DUI cases.
“I am honored to be named Dean of the NCDD. We continue to educate lawyers through our mission: ‘Justice Through Knowledge.’ One of my goals is to encourage colleagues to think preventively about driving under the influence to get clients struggling with addiction the help they need,” Burglin said.
About the National College for DUI Defense (NCDD)
The National College for DUI Defense’s mission is to provide the most advanced-level training available to DUI Defense Law practitioners. The college offers, or co-sponsors, a minimum of four legal and scientific seminars each year.
The Summer Session is conducted at the Harvard Law School and is the premier program to develop skills for trial, including methods for challenging field sobriety tests, breath and blood tests, opening statements and closing arguments. It also provides techniques for cross-examining police officers and prosecution experts, as well as developing and using defense expert witnesses.
NCDD also conducts a Winter Session at varying locations, and co-sponsors, with the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, a seminar in the fall in Las Vegas. This seminar is believed to be the largest criminal defense seminar of its type, routinely attended by more than 500 lawyers from all across the country.
